My Self-Publishing Journey
Join me as I navigate the world of self-publishing from beginning to end, idea to published work.
I like alliteration. So I've decided every Wednesday I'll find a writing prompt and write something based on the prompt. I'll post both the prompt and what I've written here and will invite anyone who wants to to take the challenge themselves. So for the first ever Writing Prompt Wednesday let's see what the prompt will be... Today's writing prompt is a dialogue prompt. "Have you still got your blindfold on?" His voice came from where he was tied up behind me. "Yes." "Promise me you won't take it off." If this dialogue has sparked your imagination, go write right now. Then come back an post what you wrote in the comments section. If what you wrote is too long to post in a comment, just post your favorite excerpt. If you'd like to read what I wrote, read on. "Have you still got your blindfold on?" His voice came from where he was tied up behind me.
"Yes." "Promise me you won't take it off." "I promise, since I technically can't take it off." "Right." He wriggled his wrist and rubbed against my hand. "They tied you up too." "Where are we?" I could hear a steady drip drip drip off to my right. "I don't know. A warehouse maybe?" "Hello!" I called out by my voice didn't echo like it would have in a space as big as a warehouse. "Maybe not." "It's so quiet here," I said leaning forward, my chin on my knees. "Weird huh? In the city, it's never this quiet." There was a rustling sound and then I felt something scurry across my feet. "Ew ew ew!" "What?" "We're not alone. Something just crawled on me." "Oh yeah. I didn't want to tell you but I heard some squeaking when you were asleep earlier." I groaned and he rubbed our hands together again. Behind the ratty blindfold my eyes started to itch. I tried to twitch my eyelids but that just made the problem worse. Then suddenly I felt a breeze blow across my face, ruffling my hair. I heard voice in another room say, "We're ready for the boy. Once he's settled, bring in the girl." The voice was raspy, like from smoking too much. But the booming voice that answered was the one that sent shivers down my spine. "Yes boss." I'd heard that voice through the trunk of the car. The voice of the man who'd pushed me and Tim into this hell hole. Behind me, Time stiffened. "What's happening?" "It's audition time," the man replied, standing in front of Tim. "I'm not going without Claire." I felt Time lean back against me, thrashing his tied legs. There was an oomph as Tim kicked the man and then I heard Tim groan through clenched teeth. He sagged away from me and slumped on the floor. The man must've used chloroform again. "Now when I come back for you, no struggling. All right, Claire?" He asked sneeringly. "You're friend just took up all the extra time we had. We're on a tight schedule here." I sensed him kneeling in front of me, blowing his smelly onion-breath in my face. I pulled my knees back to strike him but he moved behind me again, laughing. I listened as he dragged Tim's body away and then the whoosh of air from a door shutting. Then the simple drip drip drip was the only sound keeping me company. --------------------------------------- So what'd you think? How did your writing turn out? Was it anything like mine? Any guesses as to where this story is going? I'm not sure if I'll finish it, or continue on with the same characters next Wednesday. Do you guys want me to? I guess we'll see if I get any comments from you guys, and that will decide what we write about next Wednesday. See you then. If you did write something from this prompt, please share it with me either in the comments below or by emailing me at [email protected]. Thanks for reading guys, Keep on Creating, K. A. Jairl
